How My Human Design Played Out in Corporate (Part 1)
How My Human Design Played Out in Corporate: A Strategic Retrospective (Part 1)
Embarking on a journey into self-awareness often brings clarity to past experiences. In hindsight, it’s fascinating to see how my Human Design operated seamlessly in my corporate career long before I became conscious of it. This blog explores the intersection of my Human Design chart and my professional path in corporate environments, offering a glimpse into how innate gifts, strategies, and energy centers shaped my success.
Choosing the Path: Early Career Decisions
Before stepping into the corporate world, my affinity for numbers and problem-solving was clear. This love for analysis led me to A-level subjects like math and economics, followed by a sudden pivot to marketing and statistics during my degree. In hindsight, this shift mirrored the strategic and creative elements in my Human Design chart, particularly the 17-62 channel—a channel that bridges big-picture thinking with a keen eye for details.
This channel highlights a natural ability to integrate overarching strategies with tactical precision. Combining this with the Gate 26, known as the “hypnotist” or marketeer gate, it makes sense that I gravitated toward crafting persuasive and innovative marketing strategies.
Stepping into Corporate: Strategy and Innovation
When I entered the workforce, my Human Design gifts were already in play. In marketing and business development roles within traditional industries like construction and engineering, I found myself breaking new ground.
Key elements of my design came to the forefront:
- The 23-43 Channel (Genius-Freak): This energy drives innovative thinking and introduces groundbreaking ideas that can seem “ahead of their time.” For example, in a male-dominated and conservative industry, I spearheaded initiatives like using podcasts and client interviews as unconventional marketing tools. This wasn’t common practice then, but it paved the way for deeper client relationships and innovative branding.
- Gate 3 (Innovation): My ability to approach challenges playfully and creatively helped me present “wacky” ideas in ways that stood out. Coining terms like “technovative” (a blend of technology and innovation) exemplified this energy.
These roles also illuminated my 5-2 profile, which combines a natural problem-solving ability (line 5) with innate genius (line 2). Often hired to build marketing and business development systems from scratch, I was perceived as a capable, solutions-driven leader who could develop strategies and execute them seamlessly.
Navigating Challenges: Visibility and Timing
In corporate spaces, balancing innovation with tradition was key. The 23-43 Channel shines when timed correctly, but its “genius-freak” energy requires receptiveness from others to avoid being dismissed as “too out there.”
While I had supportive leaders who backed bold marketing ideas, I learned through trial and error how critical timing was for presenting transformative concepts. This skill—knowing when and how to introduce change—became a valuable asset as I refined my strategic approach.
Energy and Centers in Action
My defined energy centers also played a significant role in shaping how I worked and communicated:
-
- Defined Root Center: I thrived on deadlines, using pressure as motivation rather than stress. This grounding energy enabled me to stay productive in high-stakes situations.
- Defined Ajna and Throat Centers: Articulating strategies and clearly communicating marketing directions came naturally. These centers amplified my ability to translate complex ideas into actionable steps that resonated with others.
Laying the Foundation for My Business
My corporate experience didn’t just shape my career—it became the foundation for building my own business. Over 13 years ago, I transitioned from traditional marketing roles to running a marketing agency, and eventually to integrating Human Design, energetics, and embodiment practices into business growth.
Looking back, it’s clear how the interplay of my Human Design gifts informed this evolution:
- Strategic Focus: The strategic elements in my design naturally aligned with crafting holistic marketing approaches that resonated with clients’ unique needs.
- Authenticity and Innovation: Balancing creativity (Gate 3) with strategy (Gate 17-62) allowed me to differentiate my offerings and build a brand rooted in originality.
- Energy Awareness: Understanding how to use pressure (Root Center) and communication (Throat Center) effectively helped me design a business model that aligns with my energy and purpose.
Conclusion: Awareness Brings Alignment
Reflecting on my corporate journey through the lens of Human Design has been an enlightening experience. It’s incredible to see how the traits and energies that once guided me unconsciously have become intentional tools for alignment in my life and business.
Stay tuned for Part 2, where I’ll explore how Human Design further shaped my transition from corporate to entrepreneurship and the lessons I’ve carried forward into my current work.
